13 digit mobile numbers in India from July 1? Not true, only for M2M number

NEW DELHI: If you've been reading reports abo your mobile number having 13 digits (from 1 digits currently) from July 1 and have been feelin perplexed, relax! Your mobile number will continu to have 10 digits. Certain sections of the medi seem to have misinterpreted a DoT (Departme of Telecommunication) order for machine t machine or M2M numbers.
M2M numbers are the ones that are used f SIMs in devices like swipe machines, car electricity meters etc. Officials from Bharti AirtelIndia's largest telecom service provider, Relianc Jio and telecom industry body COAI (Cellul Operators Association of India) confirmed to T that the mobile numbers we have and use remai unaffected by this development.
Earlier this month, the DoT had issued a directiv to telecom operators mentioning th implementation of 13-digit numbering scheme f M2M communication.
"Migration of existing l0-digit M2M numbers to 1 digits will start latest by October 1, 2018 and sha be completed by December 31, 2018," the Do order stated. All new M2M mobile connection will be allocated l3-digit numbers from July 2018, it added.
The DoT has also asked the service providers t "ensure that their network elements including I and other relevant systems are aligned with 1digit numbering for M2M SIMs before July 2018.
